The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has unearthed what could be India’s largest-ever medical education scam, involving a complex nexus of crores worth of bribes, senior education and government officials, and a self-styled godman who allegedly played a key role in orchestrating fake admissions across multiple states.
🔍 Widespread Network of Corruption
According to top CBI sources, raids conducted over the past few weeks have revealed a pan-India network of fake medical college admissions, with over 30 institutions under investigation. More than 300 suspicious admissions have come under scrutiny, with many allegedly facilitated through forged documents and backdoor deals.
“We have identified a high-level network that used spiritual institutions, private consultants, and corrupt officials to secure illegal medical seats for unqualified candidates,” said a senior CBI officer.
Preliminary estimates suggest that over ₹200 crore may have changed hands in the scam.
🧑⚖️ Arrests and Seizures So Far
The CBI has arrested at least 12 individuals, including administrative staff, intermediaries, and suspected beneficiaries. Multiple bank accounts have been frozen and large volumes of cash, forged documents, and digital records have been seized during raids conducted in Delhi, Maharashtra, Uttar Pradesh, and Madhya Pradesh.
One of the key suspects is a prominent spiritual leader, referred to by followers as a “guru of education and healing”. He is believed to have acted as a facilitator, using his religious influence and institutional connections to bypass official procedures.
⚠️ National Risk: Fake Doctors in the System
Experts warn that such scams don’t just compromise the integrity of the education system—they could put millions of lives at risk. Doctors admitted through corrupt means may lack the required training and expertise, leading to dangerous outcomes for patients.
🧵 Political and Social Reactions
The case has sparked outrage across the country. Several opposition leaders have demanded a parliamentary probe into the matter and accused the government of failing to regulate private medical institutions effectively.
Social media is abuzz with demands for lifetime bans and stringent jail terms for those involved in jeopardizing public health for profit.
📢 What Happens Next?
The CBI investigation is ongoing, and officials say more arrests are likely in the coming weeks.
A special task force under the Health Ministry may also be formed to audit past admissions and ensure stricter compliance across medical institutions.
